Oldies

Big ups to VersionDouble for their last post, it was the basis for this post here. I've always been a lover of funk, and I think there was a lot of great 80's electo-funk that got overlooked for either just not being big enough, or for sounding too similar to disco. Here's some classics you may know, through originals or through sampling, and some tunes that may be new!

Before this gets too insane, I'm going to recommend just listening to the tunes on this youtube channel (I think he actually has another channel as well...I'll get back to you on that). Mans got an impressive amount of funk.

New Tune from Myself

Started this project up two days ago, and am really just looking for some constructive feedback on it. It would be much appreciated!

Kids in the Hall Appresh

If you haven't heard of Kids in the Hall...well I'm kind of surprised, yet not at the same time. Its a sketch comedy produced by Lourne Michaels (the creator of SNL), which should have made it huge...but it was still the early 90's, and SNL was still worth a shit. That and most Americans probably didn't find Canadian humor that appealing.

I remember watching this show as a kid, and never finding it funny and found it odd that my older cousins would. Now that the show is in syndication on the Comendy Network (with SCTV before it...so boss), I've had the opportunity to give it a do over. I've spent about 20 minutes trying to think of something to type here, so I'm just going to settle with this: If you like Flying Circus, but want to see something a little more ridiculous, then I really recommend this show. If you like SNL, but don't like how ridiculous it is, and you want to see decent acting, then I also recommend this.

Here's a few of my favorite clips

Timbo appresh

Romeo Must Die was on tv today, and since I'm a sucker for terrible movies, I watched it. I didn't see it when it originally came out, but I do remember hearing the soundtrack single "Try Again" 5 times a day. So after hearing the song play after a hilariously epic fight scene (you gotta love the bad CGI fire), I was pretty stoked to see it was as good as I remembered.
Before my stoned rant spins out of control, here's a bunch of tracks (original and intrumentals) Timbaland has done:

(I have to stop myself here...theres just too much)

For the last 10 years he's always been my favorite producer, but now I gotta say he might be the best mainstream producer over that time frame.

And while we're at it...

Found these guys randomly last night...dl'd the album, and I have to say its pretty damn good. Its some real nice 95 east coast hip hop; similar to the Boot Camp Clik. If you're interested in it, lemme know and I'll send it on over.

The Widdler - B Sides and Bootlegs

Theres not a whole bunch I can say about The Widdler; as I really don't know much about him really. However, what I do know, is that when I first started listening to dubstep.fm back in the day, it seemed like every other song was made by him (all the songs being Malicious Tactics, Pro Nails, Wheres My Money/My Pet Monster).

Anyways, respect to Dubstep Records for giving away a bunch of his tunes for free!

Jay Retro/ Mizz Beats

Heres some shameless promotion, but oh well. Jay Retro and Mizz Beats are some producers from London that I've become friends with online, and I thought I would share some of their music with you.

Heres the first track I've heard from them. This tune just tears up the dance every time I've played it! Last I'd heard it was coming out on Deep Medi, but I'm not too sure...
Level 0 - Mizz Beats (Un-Mastered) by mizzbeats

And speaking of Deep Medi, heres a tune from Deep Medi 026
My World by mizzbeats

And on the other end of the spectrum, we have a pop track from Jay. I'd listen to it if it was on the radio, lol.
J warner - Insomnia - Produced By Jay Retro ( The Arcade ) by Jay_Retro

I guess the point of this post is to say, watch out for these two. They can produce for both sides of the spectrum, and have no real plans on stopping! This family is gunna take over
